草地防蟲知識

踏入春天，很多温哥華居民的前後園被烏鴉大肆破壞，原兇乃日本甲蟲 (Japanese beetles)。
這種昆蟲在6月、7月在草地上産卵，到大约9月孵化成幼蟲 (稱 grub) 鑽入泥土下吃草根準備過冬，這時幼蟲吸引動物如烏鴉、貍貓、臭鼬來捕捉，把草地都翻起得一榻糊塗。
想有效預防日本甲蟲的幼蟲卵在草地下生長和避免草地被動物破壞，4月初在草地落 nematodes (各大五金連鎖店有售) , 它是一種專吃 grub 的無害蛔蟲, 除去上年冬天鑽進土地冬眠的 grub; 到 6月夏天甲蟲產卵後，整個7月份停止淋水灌溉前後園草地，令日本甲蟲在草地上產下的卵因草地太乾涸而孵不成蟲。這是天然不含化學的防蟲方法。
